The three-axle trams - a typical Ghent tram type - were built as a result of the increasing number of passengers. Therefore, old two-axle trams were converted into the larger three-axle trams. This ensured that more capacity could be offered without the need for additional staff (driver and receptions).
These trams ran on the city tram network in Ghent from 1930 to 1971. The conversion was carried out in-house, which was the custom at the time.
Between 1950 and 1954 all three-axle cars were modernised with the intention of also standardising all sub-series as much as possible. The partitions of the class divisions were removed, rubber floor coverings were installed, lighting with fluorescent lamps was installed and film cabinets were installed for the destination film.
